What is a salvage category?

A salvage category, sometimes known a salvage title, is an official indication that the car has been written off. It’s assigned to each vehicle by the Association of British Insurers, whose representative will have conducted an impartial examination of the car before designating it.

The purpose of a salvage category is to provide an rough indication of the vehicle’s level of damage. There are four total salvage categories, two of which underwent a name change in October 2017.

• Category N (formerly Cat D) – non-structural faults
• Category S (formerly Cat C) – notable structural damage
• Category B – extensive structural damage
• Category A – beyond any repair. Strictly scrap only

It’s worth noting that we don’t actually stock any Category A vehicles here at RAW2K, as by definition they’re too badly damaged to be of any use to our customers!
