Quick answers to your car auction questions

How much can you save with online car auctions?

Well obviously, the answer to that depends heavily on what sort of car you’re buying and what you’re planning to use it for. Generally though, you can easily save hundreds on buying an auction car as opposed to getting one brand-new, and it’s not unheard of for people to even save thousands on more prestigious models such as Audis and BMWs.

What is an auction car?

Essentially, it’s a catch-all term for a used, seized or salvage car. Our used cars are generally in good condition here at RAW2K, while the conditions of seized or salvage cars can vary. Salvage cars are sometimes known as scrap cars, and are often in a state of disassembly or damage, while seized cars are sold at the direction of police or car insurance companies, who will have assigned it a salvage title.

What is a salvage title?

Salvage titles and salvage categories are one and the same, and are basically used to indicate the rough level of damage on any given auction car. There are four categories in total, though it’s worth noting that in October 2017 two of them were updated with new names. These categories are:

  • Category N (formerly Cat D) – non structural faults
  • Category S (formerly Cat C) – notable structural damage
  • Category B – extensive structural damage
  • Category A – beyond any repair. Strictly scrap only

We’ve included Category A for the sake of full disclosure. However, we don’t sell Category A cars here at RAW2K. Their extreme level of damage means they’re worth very little to even the most skilled of mechanics, so it’s not worth it for us to stock them, whether in Yorkshire car auctions or anywhere else!
